TH 12 Flame Propagation and Stability Unit

This unit has been designed to allow students to investigate the behavior characteristics of flames such as flame lift off and flame light back. A blower and control valve is provided for air supply and control air flow rate. Slow burning gaseous fuel from cylinder or mains is controlled and measured in a similar idea. Both air and gas are separately introduced into a mixing block designed to accommodate a variety of mixing tubes. A heat resistant glass tube and supporting ring is provided to enable the primary and secondary flames to be separated. The flame speed system is provided to allow investigation of the relationship of flame speed and air/fuel ratio

1. Bench top unit housing a single stage centrifugal air blower. Fitted with controls and flowmeters for determining

2. Air Flow: Glass variable area flow meter. Range 0 to 0.6 liters/sec

3. Gas flow: Glass variable area flow meter. Range 0 to 0.2 liters/sec

4. Four interchangeable steel Burner tube from 12.5 mm diameter to 25 mm diameter

5. Two Brass Stabilizer cups (conical cups) to fit two burner tube

6. Heat resistant glass tube and brass adapter for flame separation experiment

7. Flame Speed System

       - Flame speed tube: 25mm diameter x 5 m long clear PVC tube.
